I’m the perpetual student. There’s always something new to learn. My artwork encompasses a wide range of mediums and materials as I explore the creative side of my psyche. I may come across a piece that catches my eye the wheels in my head start turning. It could be the way the light hits the water, and I begin to wonder how to render that in paint, or the way leaves curl about a branch and I begin to think how I could recreate that grace in a piece of artwork. What skills do I need to master to add something like that to my repertoire?
Perhaps it is this desire to explore new things that keep me from wanting to be labeled a painter or a watercolorist or an egg artist, etc. There are so many ways that our lives can be adorned that I don’t want to limit myself to just one. Part of the challenge is adapting something from one area of the artist’s spectrum to another. I many times apply techniques from my oil painting into my egg artistry, or take forms I’ve only painted and create jewelry designs from them.
I’m intrigued with color. The way light flows through a piece of stained glass, or just the mix of paints on my palette as I create something else. The way they work together to create an emotional response that resonates deep within is something I’m always working with.
